When I sew blocks together, I try my best to keep each row attached in chains. This way, I'm much less prone to accidentally sew pieces in the wrong direction. It takes a little extra effort up front, but less ripping makes it totally worth it to me.⁠

My husband says this is my mantra. But actually, it's just me trying to be obedient. When my children were young, I would tell them that they could say anything they wanted to me (or anyone else) and they could express any feeling or thought, but they HAD to use kind words. I never thought it wise to keep feelings bottled up, but I also didn't think it wise to let them explode like a coke bottle that has been shaken up. ⁠

It takes a little more effort. It takes not spitting out the first thing that pops into your head, but rather going through the mental gymnastics of thinking through how each word will be received and the logical outcome of each word you say. If you really want to communicate how you feel, logic and love go a lot further than rants and explosions. And logic and love will be a lot more convincing if you are trying to get your point across. While it may be true that facts don't care about your feelings, humans do care about feelings and if you want to change human hearts you will speak truth (or facts) in the most loving way possible. Despite your best efforts, sometimes truth and facts will offend, and sometimes we all need to be offended by some truth we are overlooking or might be blinded to. But if it's presented kindly by someone we know loves us, it just might penetrate a hardened heart or mind. ⁠

It's not always easy, but I can tell you that nearly 40 years into a marriage based on this "mantra" has generated a deepness, a unity, that I would have never dreamed possible.⁠

Audrey gave me a particular color scheme to work with, and I have just loved working with her palette. Soft but earthy colors. Most of the colors were found in @sharonholland 's line, but I also am working in a few I prints from a @bonniechristine collections. ⁠

Happy Easter! And here's your Easter egg: Keep a bunch of pre-wound bobbins in a little bobbin "basket" beside your sewing machine. A Longarm quilting instructor once told me this tip in a class, and I thought to myself, "That's not a bad idea for any type of sewing." ⁠

I buy my neutral thread colors in cones. (It's much cheaper that way.) On evenings when I don't have the brain bandwidth to sew or cut, I wind a bunch of bobbins. I try to keep 10 of each neutral color (Black, white, gray, and cream)at the ready.⁠

Having a bobbin prepared in advanced prevents many heavy sighs and helps keep the sewing mojo going!⁠
