Cross wound thread

Cross wound thread is a spool of thread in which the threads overlap each other in diagonal fashion. If the thread is cross wound, it should be loaded on the sewing machine in a horizontal fashion. Compare cross wound spools with stacked thread or stacked spools, in which the threads are stacked on top of each other vertically. Note that the bobbin in the photo above is a stacked bobbin.
