Mothers Dream Quilt Block

Skill level: Confident beginner to Intermediate

The Mother’s Dream Quilt Block is technically a 4-patch designed around a 4×4 grid. However, this is not the way an efficient quilter would approach making the block. The most straight forward method to construct Mother’s Dream Quilt Block is to use squares and rectangles and build the block along the diagonal. (Look at the block construction illustrations below to get a visual on this.) A similar quilt block that uses diagonal construction is the Grandmother’s Cross Quilt Block.

This block is a perfect scrap-busting block, so if you’ve collected a lot of scrap pieces, you might want to give the Mother’s Dream Quilt Block a try.
